Protect Black Women!

Malcolm X infamously once said, “The most disrespected person in America is the black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the black woman. The most neglected person in America is the black woman.” And America has yet to disprove Malcolm X.

There are so many powerful Black women who have made and continue to make history. To name drop a few: Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Oprah Winfrey, Regina King, Viola Davis, Cicely Tyson, Whitney Houston, and most notably, Michelle Obama, who is the FIRST college educated black woman to be the First Lady of the United States. Black women are the heart and soul of the black community. Yet still, they do not receive the respect they deserve.

It has been more than 160 days since the murder of Breonna Taylor. Her killers officers Jonathan Mattingly, Myles Cosgrove, and Brett Hankison still have not been arrested! Society is doing everything else, like painting Black Lives Matter on roads, changing street names, or insert symbolic gesture here, but arresting and charging the cops who kill unarmed black people.

Breonna Taylor was in her bed SLEEPING for God’s sake and these officers entered her home and killed her! Where is the justice?! Putting them on administrative reassignment does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! A life was lost at the hands of these men and they are still able to walk around free? Make it make sense.

Another black woman who has lacked protection is Houston rapper, Megan Thee Stallion. About a month ago, it was reported that Megan was shot in her feet. And just this past week, she revealed that rapper Tory Lanez committed the heinous act. As she described the incident, Megan proclaimed that they were in an altercation and he shot her while she was walking away.

While many people have shown their support for Megan, many men have not. Numerous have questioned her stating, “she had to have provoked him,” or “she’s lying.” They even made jokes about her height, trying to sell a narrative of her being intimidating. If you noticed, this is the SAME justification white cops use for killing unarmed black people!

Many are even calling Megan a “snitch” for name dropping her attacker, like what?!?! Instead of going after Tory Lanez, who was clearly in the wrong, some individuals are victim blaming. And I’m 100 percent sure that if it was a white woman shot by a black man, it would be a whole different story.

Now when I say protect black women, I mean ALL black women. Earlier this week, the vicious attack and robbery of three transgender women in Hollywood was broadcasted to Instagram. Though two of the three men were arrested, the DA decided to reject the case due to, “lack of evidence.” Sir, the attack was broadcasted LIVE on Instagram, what “more evidence” do you need??? This is a prime example of why we say #blacktranslivesmatter. Individuals like to pick and choose which black lives are more important than others. But if we say black lives matter, then it means ALL black lives matter.

Black women, you matter! America has done a disservice to you and you deserve better. You deserve to be loved and protected. You deserve justice and respect. Without black queens, we wouldn’t have black kings. You are needed, you are necessary, and I will continue to fight for you. Maybe this year, America will follow suit.
